We rebuild transmissions. We'd rather find out you don't need one.
Jesse has been working on cars since 1985, and running this shop on South State Street since 2004. Rebuilds, valve bodies, torque converters, CVTs and conventional automatics.
And because we also do electrical diagnosis under the same roof, we have no reason to sell you a rebuild you don't need. That's not a slogan; it's just what happens when the same person can check both. Three cars quoted for a full transmission replacement, on our Hard Ones page, turned out to need a sensor, a wire, and a ground.
What we'll tell you
If it needs a rebuild, we'll say so, and we'll tell you what's actually worn and why. If it doesn't, we'll say that too — and that conversation is usually a shorter bill than the one you were expecting.
What a rebuild gets you
- 24 months / 24,000 miles, parts and labor, backed by this shop
- Work done here, by the people whose names are on this website
- A straight explanation of what failed and what we replaced
Jasper remanufactured units
For some vehicles a Jasper remanufactured transmission is the better answer than a rebuild. We're a Jasper installer. If you buy the Jasper unit through us, it carries Jasper's 3-year / 100,000-mile nationwide warranty — honored anywhere in the country, in addition to our own work.
That warranty applies to Jasper units purchased through the shop. We'll tell you plainly whether a rebuild or a Jasper unit is the better fit for your car.
Signs worth getting looked at
Slipping. Shuddering under light throttle. Harsh or delayed engagement. Won't shift, or won't shift into one particular gear. A check engine light along with any of the above. Any of these can be mechanical — and any of these can be electrical. The only way to know which is to look.
Diagnosis is $150 for the first hour.
